In support of 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence, the Internal Audit department of the SA Post Office has committed to making a difference in the lives of the less privileged. The department, identified Nomzamo Mandela Primary School, located in one of the poorest communities Durban, known as Welbedact. This was done through the assistance of AIM Projects, coordinated by Selvana Naicker,

AIM Projects is an organisation aimed at assisting the lives of children who are underprivileged and cannot afford standard school necessities i.e. desks, stationery, etc.

At the handover held on Wednesday, 28 November, Nobuhle Njapha SA Post Office’s communications specialist, said 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence is about coming together and breaking the cycle of abuse in our society. “Our employees represent the voice of their communities and their concern is currently the prevalence of the abuse of women and children.”

“As an organisation we are extremely proud of the support we continue to receive from our staff. They are exemplars of good corporate citizenship,” added Njapha.

Through the department’s annual charity drive initiative, supported solely by staff contributions, the needs of these children were identified.
During the visit to the school, 95 Grade R learners were given much needed stationery packs, goodie bags, lunch and utensils.

The annual 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children is an international campaign, which takes place from Sunday, 25 November to Monday, 10 December. The campaign aims to act against abuse and create awareness of its negative impact on women and children.
