“MSM describes a behaviour and not an identity. As such the term applies to all men who occasionally or frequently have sex with other men, irrespective of their sexual orientation or whether they also have sex with women,” explains ICAP’s Most At-Risk Populations (MARPs) technical advisor, Jacques Livingston.

The Mosaic Men’s Initiative targets MSM across KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape, Northern Cape, the Free State and Limpopo, and was launched by ICAP in 2012. With current funding, the initiative will run until 2015, and collaborates with NGOs, CBOs and other health facilities in each of the five provinces to get its message across.

“The Z-CARD® not only provides images and details of sexually transmitted diseases, but also educates MSM about alcohol and drug abuse and the links between substance abuse and HIV transmission,” says Livingston.

“Our intention is to provide our target audience with important information about how they can reduce their risks, as well as a helpline number should they need further assistance. The Z-CARD® is a compact format that enabled us to do this,” he adds.

The cards are being distributed via ICAP regional offices.
