Needless to say, the book is aimed at the sixty plus crowd, especially those who want to know the secret to, if not, eternal youth, then the secret to feeling great as the years go by.

What struck me first was the display of the title; the original title was Over the Hill, but Hill was crossed out and replaced by Moon. It lays the foundation for what lies ahead for the reader.

Dr van Zyl-Edeling deftly takes the reader on a step by step approach to aging positively. She generously shares her wisdom and her learnings from many years, dare I say decades, of work in the fields of psychology and nutrition to create a guide that is easy to read, understand and assimilate.

The sections are colour coded and I didn't feel overburdened by information. The book delivers what the dust cover promises: “In Over the Moon you will learn how to harness the power of your subconscious to realise the life you desire; distinguish between wishful thinking and a positive attitude and gain control of your aging process through the power of intention, mindfulness and other positive strategies.”

The research is thorough and is conveyed in a way that the lay reader can appreciate, while the personal anecdotes pepper the text with character and a sense of humour. There is one where the author describes how walking on the beach, her daughter in law pointed out a rainbow in the sky. The author couldn't see it, until she took off her glasses.

There are also quotes from the likes of Deepak Chopra, Mark Twain, William Shakespeare and Joy Page, to name a few, that inspire and challenge while the description of various scientific studies is also insightful. I’d recommend this book for anyone wanting to inject a fresh boost of positivity into their lives.

Over the Moon by Dr Hannetjie van Zyl-Edeling is currently available from www.porcupinepress.co.za and www.amazon.com. It will be on the shelf in May.
