Gathered in full force around the iconic gold Magnum bar, Cape Town-based food and lifestyle media were treated to a selection of Graham Beck champagnes and mouth-watering canapés as they witnessed Kamini’s creations and culinary flair.

A master at work, Pather used the fabulous Magnum pints, recently voted Product of the Year in the Ice-Cream Category, as the starting point to her authentic and innovative desserts. From Tokyo inspired ice-cream sandwiches consisting of malt flavoured biscuits, Magnum vanilla and chocolate ice-cream with dark chocolate ganache; to a proudly South African (Johannesburg) koeksister-centred ice-cream pop with raspberry and chocolate ice-cream, white chocolate ganache and chocolate covered popping candy; there was seemingly no end to the evening’s decadence.

Other creations included a Philadephia inspired ice-cream tart with an Oreo base, chocolate ice-cream and rose petals. Last but not least, and influenced by Pather’s recent trip to Bangkok, guests were shown how to create avocado mousse with hazelnut and chocolate ice-cream, coconut tuiles and coconut shavings.

Following the demonstration, guests were given the chance to try their own hand at creating a winning dessert plate, with many of the creations being consumed long before judging could take place. “It was a fabulous evening,” says Pather. “Using Magnum ice-cream as a tool, to express and share what I have learnt from my international travels, provided for a very memorable experience.”

The Magnum Cape Town Pleasure Store, open daily at Cavendish Square from 10:00 to 20:00 until Sunday, 15 March, is giving Capetonians the opportunity to participate in the decadence whilst celebrating the glamour of a quarter century of pleasure. “It provides fans with the chance to customise their own Magnum ice-cream any way they want,” says Pranya Naidoo, Magnum brand manager, Unilever.

With a choice of decadent chocolate dips and nearly 20 toppings from sea salt to chilli flakes and rose petals to chocolate-coated honeycomb, The Make My Magnum experience costs R40 and includes a choice of three premium toppings.

So why not get down to Cavendish Square this summer and celebrate with Magnum, whilst creating one’s very own tasty delight.
