Sempre Opera, together with the Sempre Opera Ensemble, present Mozart at the Movies, from several different angles on Sunday, 12 April at 15:30 at the Auto and General Theatre on the Square in Sandton.

Mozart's music has enhanced scenes in films such as Alien, The Shawshank Redemption, Ace Ventura, Nikita, The Big Lebowski and The King’s Speech, to name but a few. Theatre goers can look forward to well-loved arias and ensembles by Mozart from his operas Die Zauberflöte, Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni and Cosi fan Tutte, all of which were used in film scenes.

Members of the Sempre Opera Company performing in this concert include the soprano Deirdré Blignaut-Rautenbach, mezzo-soprano Linette van der Merwe, tenor and Chris Mostert, as well as the bass-baritone Christiaan Snyman, who will perform together with the Sempre Opera Instrumental Ensemble and Rudolf Geldenhuis (piano) under the baton of Schalk van der Merwe.

For this concert, Sempre Opera is joining forces with City Soirée, South Africa’s first and only event-specific crowd funding platform and the Auto & General Theatre on the Square. Their aim is to connect the music and the fans, the makers and communities, the interesting and the interested — all within the realm of live events. City Soirée’s innovative crowd funding approach gives fans the power to make great concerts possible. They see music fans not as consumers but stakeholders in the industry and seek to bring them and the artists that they love closer together.

This concert-event is a first for Sempre Opera as well as City Soirée and the Auto & General Theatre on the Square, and together they hope to bring  Mozart at the Movies to the stage and show that there is an exciting new way to do classical music concerts.

For this concert, 80 pledges are needed to make it happen. As soon as the target is reached, and if the space is big enough, limited general tickets will be available for fans who missed out on pledging. Remember that pledges are cheaper than general tickets, so get in early.

Pledges for Mozart at the Movies are available at R125 via the City Soirée website
