“The great news for Ads24 clients is that there is no associated rate increase. We will carry the additional 11.1% cost, while giving clients 11.1% of added value,” says Tania Barzu, portfolio manager: trade marketing and business strategy.

PE Express is a family read, with an equal male and female readership and with more than 70% reading all four to five copies per month. More than 80% of the readers receive their copy at home and read almost all of the paper. Close to 80% of readers are interested in community news and advertising promotions, and this strengthens PE Express’ position as the advertising medium of choice for Port Elizabeth.

“Advertising plays a critical role for businesses in the PE Metro and PE Express delivers tenfold on this. A total of 90% of our readers prefer their advertising in the newspaper and 80% have an eager appetite for sales promotions. Our readers travel an average of 6km to their nearest shopping centre and 62% of them do their main shopping on a Saturday. We are very proud to be delivering an advertising source that is reliable, cost effective and delivers the responses that our clients have seen to be true for more than 30 years,” says general manager Tasmia Ismail.

“The demand from our readers for more copies to be printed proves that print is indeed not dying if a publication, while changing with the times, remains indispensable for both its readers and advertisers,” says regional editor Bettie Giliomee.

According to Ismail the increase in print order is necessitated by the rapid housing developments in the metro, as well as the growing retail market. “This is proof that we have and always will be the preferential local medium of choice for both our readers and advertisers,” says Ismail.

Since the first edition of PE Express was published in November 1983, the newspaper has held steadfast in good and difficult economic times, keeping to the promise made in the first edition of being an exclusive newspaper for all the residents of the Friendly City – from the housewife to the businessman and the sport lover.

“As the face of the community changed over the 30 years, so has the PE Express which kept fulfilling this promise, and to this day remains in high demand by our community,” says Giliomee.

The newspaper has also embraced the digital era with a big social media following, due to breaking news of local interest being covered minute by minute, as and when it happens. Its stories can also be read on the News 24 website.
