Says Mambu: “I’m also part of these brands’ social media teams. We need to ensure that their social media presence increase, as this aids in building brand awareness as well as excellent relationships with our customers.”

Born and bred in East London in a township called Mdantsane, Mambu studied Marketing at Cape Peninsula University of Technology. “I wanted to explore and see different places, hence in 2012 I decided to leave home for the first time and head to Cape Town where I enrolled at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology to obtain my B.Tech.”

To Mambu, her career choice always felt right: “The reason I chose marketing was because it’s a diverse career choice and I knew it’s where I fitted in and felt most comfortable, be it branding, agencies or sales divisions. Being in the retail industry has been amazing because I get to work with different people and clients, but mostly I get to interact with the customers and understand them more in terms of their buying patterns.”

In five years from now, Mambu sees herself in a position whereby she influences young people to fight for their dreams and to study hard to achieve it. She would love to help them find employment in the cut throat marketing industry.

Mambu says: “I want to be seen as an influential person that knows the ins and outs of marketing and be the 'Trend-Guru' that everyone goes to for new developments and ever changing consumer trends in the retail industry.”

“My goal for 2016 is to learn as much as I can about the marketing and retail industries. I work with the most amazing people such as Stuart Hopwood (head of marketing) and Fahiem Frizlar (marketing manager) who have years of experience in this industry and are always eager to pass their knowledge to me,” she adds.

Mambu is very grateful to her parents for always believing in her, encouraging her to move out of her comfort zone and go after her dream. “I know I’ve made them extremely proud. I’ll continue to reach for the stars and not forget where I come from,” she concludes.
