The invitations to those privileged enough to be present in Boardroom 1 at the Sandton Convention Centre early Thursday afternoon followed the beginning of the Gateway To Space exhibition at the centre on Wednesday, 1 June. The exhibition will continue to run at the Sandton Convention Centre until Sunday, 31 July.

After guests were greeted by arrival canapes of pickled duck breast, duck liver parfait and aniseed fig brioche, accompanied by tomato tarte tatin, creamy blue cheese and basil creme, the guests took their seats where they were greeted by their chefs and captains for the afternoon, Garth L. Shnier and James Khoza.

Following introductions, over the course of the afternoon, six different courses were served, accompanied by a wine tasting for each led by Tsogo Sun group sommelier Miguel Chan. Chan enlightened those present about the four different shirazes and single grenache they tasted throughout the afternoon.

The culinary voyage the guests enjoyed served as a promotion of outstanding food and service the Sandton Convention Centre has to offer, a training ground for budding chefs, and to promote the Gateway To Space exhibition taking place at the centre, which served as the inspiration for the different dishes served.

A look at what was served can be seen in the accompanying gallery.

Come the afternoon's end, the assembled guests had been overwhelmed by the delicious offerings served to them, and encouraged to see the exhibition a couple of floors below, which has, among other attractions, a real moon rock to touch and a life-sized replica of the Mir Space Station.
