Director and Partner of Vespa South Africa, Trevor Woolfson, takes a time out with Totally MAd to share why he looks up to his mother; and his love for sport; as well as 80s music; and Apple.

1. What was your first job/ where did you start?
I came out of the Navy with an electrical background and pretty much started with my own business at flea markets and anything that would make ends meet.

2. What made you want to build a career in your profession?
I tend to follow opportunity, and that's kept me going to where I am today.

3. Describe a day in your life at present.
I wake up early for a run or cycle; get the kids to school; and get in to work, where I try and plan my day but it does not often stay that way!

4. How do you unwind behind the scenes? List your favorite song; movie; and book.
I’m more of a sporting type. I enjoy the outdoors; cycling; running; swimming; and anything with a challenge. I normally listen to an iPod on my Vespa while whizzing through traffic - music from the 80s and later. I never listen to the radio as they repeat the songs to death. I also hardly ever watch movies as they normally put me to sleep.

5. Who would you most like to meet – dead or alive, and why?
Travis Pastrana as he has achieved so much in such a short time and never loses the passion for what he enjoys doing. He is always pushing his boundaries.

6. What has been one of the most important lessons you have learnt?
The early bird gets to the worm, but the second mouse always get the cheese!

7. What is your secret indulgence and your three ‘can’t live without’ items?
I will keep that my secret! I can’t go without my family; home; and sport.

8. Who do you think is getting it right in the industry?
In my industry (I consider Vespa to be in the lifestyle industry), I think Apple, with its iPod and iPhone, is nailing it. It enhances people’s lives and is a beautiful style icon at the same time... just like Vespa.

9. Which person in the industry do you think is making waves?
Sorry to sound like a cliché but I would have to say Steve Jobs. He has re-engineered the way people listen to music and access information, and now he is totally changing the way people consume their media. Again, this is similar to what Vespa did when it revolutionised the way people commute in Europe post World War II.

10. Who is your alter ego?
Myself - I follow and live my own dreams.

11. What is your favourite perfume?
Angel.

12. Which car would best personify you and why?
It’s not a car that would personify me but a bike. The Ducati Streetfighter is aggressive, but is a lot of fun and looks great.

13. What is your favourite reality TV series?
Dirty Jobs.

14. Who is someone you truly look up to, and which qualities do you most admire about them?
I would like to say my mom; she never gave up and would always put in 110% effort.

15. What’s your stance on social media?
Social media is happening! Take a look at your kids: you can't keep them off MXit and Facebook. I still like communicating the old fashioned way, though the less time I have to spend on a computer, the happier I am!
