“As a serial entrepreneur, I understand how challenging and overwhelming it can be to grow your small business, which is why I am excited to launch Nelon specifically aimed at SMEs,” says founder and strategic business consultant Chris Nel. “Often you’re spending so much time on the daily grind, working in your business – that you lose focus on driving your business the important aspects of working on your business and keeping up-to-date on trends in the field of your business.”

Nel says: “We partner with SMEs to best determine a plan of strategy and rollout and to showcase what the collaborative consultancy can do, through our independent team of experts we are able to offer all business marketing functions.”

In the findings of the 2015 National Small Business Survey by the National Small Business Chamber, released earlier this year, marketing was cited as a major concern for the South African small business community.

The survey which canvassed 18 500 small business in South Africa found that 32% of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) regard failing to market their business effectively as one of their biggest business mistakes.

“SMEs get locked into what they have to do and lose focus on what they should do,” Nel says. “We use a coaching and mentorship method, working closely with SMEs to ensure that their business objectives meet creativity when building their brand.”

“It’s important that they make money but of equal importance is that their brand is sustainable, so we establish long term methods to help them do it specific to their trade,” he adds. “This is an initiative for SME’s to help them avoid some of the pitfalls when it comes to marketing and business development by giving them all they need to get going and implement measurable and sustainable systems.”

“The findings of the recent SME survey are of great value especially when we see how building a customer base and boosting top line continues to be a major concern,” he says. “With 43% citing sales and marketing as the area where they feel they needed the most assistance, we are incredibly excited to offer this service to SMEs at a really affordable rate.”
