Besides creating an opportunity to pay a visit to Clanwilliam - the capital of Rooibos - the organisers would like the event to be celebrated all over South Africa and the rest of the world on social media.

“We are very excited to celebrate the first Rooibos day,” says Sanet Stander, co-owner of the Rooibosteahouse in Clanwilliam and co-founder of the Rooibos Route. “The world has been benefitting from the wonder-plant that Rooibos is for centuries. It’s about time that all rooiboslovers in South Africa celebrate this unique product, and therfor a National Rooibos day.”

There is no admittance fee for the occasion and more than 100 products from different trademarks will be available for purchase. People from around the world are also invited to celebrate the day by sharing their Rooibos experiences on various social media platforms.

The first National Rooibos Day will sing the praises of the Rooibos plant and a blessing will also be spoken over the harvest.

During the Rooibos Day gathering, an attempt will be made to set a record for the largest group of people ever drink a cup of Rooibos tea at the same place, and at the same time. The official face of Rooibos for 2017 will also be announced.

“We are confident this celebration will spark enthusiasm amongst Rooibos lovers everywhere. The first Rooibos Day is an event that is not to be missed,” says Marietjie Smit, associate and sibling of Sanet Stander.
