Afro Cafe is more than just a music programme - it blends the best music Africa has to offer with a talk show, artist interviews and up and coming musicians. Afro Café is undoubtedly South Africa’s premier music television show.
Now in its seventh season, the new and revamped Afro Café delves deeper into the nooks and crannies of the South African music landscape with the gems of the local music front as our guides, also showcasing South African music legends.
“We are delighted with the seventh season of Afro Café on SABC2. The promotion and support of our home brewed sounds and unearthing of new talent is a priority for the channel, and Afro Café sets the stage for that. We are also glad to retain the pioneer of Tswana rap in the form of Stoan Seate,” said Lebo Malete - SABC2 Publicity.
Join Afro Café on Tuesday, 20 April as they usher in the new season of your number one Afro Pop, Jazz and contemporary music show with the Princess of Africa, humanitarian and internationally recognised, performing diva, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, belting out her favourite tunes and also songs from her latest offering titled '18/28'. Stoan also takes us to the Lyric Theatre, Gold Reef City for a live performance by Freshly Ground.
Serai 'Stoan' Seate, best known for his part in the highly successful kwaito band, Bongo Maffin, also owns a record label in South Africa, Stoanage. At present the record label is only six years old and being no stranger to the entertainment industry for the last 10 years, Stoan derives his name from his rap days in high school when he was known as ‘Stoan Kold-T’. He was called to a screen test for Soul Buddyz claiming the part of teacher, Pule, with whom Stoan says “he shares his pragmatic nature and ability to maintain a positive outlook.”
Apart from a cameo in Molofish, his other TV work includes presenting Castle Loud from 2001 to 2003 and Lillizela the music game show, during 2004. Stoan recently completed his new album with Speedy, 'Second Son rise', which was released early 2010. He has two albums as a solo artist – Tsela di Matlapa and the Heart of Stone.
2010 promises to be an action-packed year as Stoan endeavours to take his rightful place amongst some of South Africa’s most influential creative voices, as a solo artist and as the host of SABC2’s Afro Cafe, the home of live local music.
