This came after Jacaranda 94.2 asked its audiences for ideas on what the next big world cup after the 2010 FIFA World Cup should be, and received an overwhelming response demanding a 'World Cup of dads!'

The 'Date my dad' promotion is reality radio at its best - launched on Jacaranda 94.2’s Just Plain Breakfast on Monday morning, it invites children of single dads to send through pictures of their dad, along with a brief motivation on why he deserves a lovely leading lady in his life.

After selected dads have been profiled on air, Jacaranda 94.2’s audiences will be invited to cast their vote, across various multimedia platforms, for their favourite 'datable dad'. Once the winner has been announced, and Jacaranda listeners have become well acquainted with his personality; likes; dislikes; and his family, the gates will be opened for entries from fabulous femmes who think they have what it takes to win over dad’s heart.

They, too, will need to rally for the support of Jacaranda 94.2’s more than two-million listeners, who will narrow the list down to only four finalists.

Dad will then get spruced up in a complete makeover and go on a proper date with each of the five ladies – each lass professionally dressed to the tee, each date tailor made to fit the personality of the girl it’s with. Of course there will be plenty of pre- and post-date deliberation amongst listeners, and dad’s kids, about the 'suitability' of each candidate across air- and digital waves, with romantic getaways and cash prizes up for grabs.

Dad will announce his perfect pick live on air on 23 August, before the two of them get whisked away to the idyllic surroundings of a luxury bush lodge.

Neil Johnson, Programme Manager at Jacaranda 94.2, highlights that award-winning content and great music are complemented by at least one other fundamental of good commercial radio: “Equally important - when paralleled with the ‘business-savvy, diverse yet focused’ aspects of radio - is the element of fun. Date my dad is a first for South African radio – a promotion that takes a serious issue, faced by millions of men, and turns it into something fun and interactive that guarantees more than just a fair amount of water cooler talk!”

Jenny Griesel, Marketing Manager at Jacaranda 94.2 says that 'Date my dad' is a unique radio promotion that aims to increase both listener base and time spent listening: “Jacaranda 94.2 gets into the homes, cars and offices of over two-million prime listeners every week – keeping them well informed and entertained throughout the workday. By involving REAL people and tackling everyday-issues in a practical and interactive way, Jacaranda 94.2 creates talk – the type of talk that walks even where Jacaranda 94.2 isn’t heard… the type of talk that will continue to ask questions and changes lives long after the promotion has run its course. This is exactly what 'Date my dad' is about!”
