Location Katz Home
Tonight on Top Billing we visit a home with a personal story - a collaborative design project between a mother and her architect son. The two chat about how they enjoyed working together on the interior décor of the house and the creative freedom that this joint effort allowed. Son Greg wanted to find new, modern ways to create comfortable living and work spaces with a fresh approach to the environment and functionality. The house is a ‘C’ shape, wrapping around an internal courtyard. This shape gives every room a feeling of being outdoors so Greg and his mother, Jennifer, can sit in their lounge on a warm day with all the doors stacked open and feel like they’re outside. That’s our location this week.

Willem Alberts rugby
Sharks and Springboks ‘battering ram’, Willem Alberts and his wife Nicolene take to the country life of Kwazulu-Natal likes ducks to water. Simba catches up with the cute couple at ‘Rain Farm Game & Lodge’ to find out what the ‘man of the moment’ in South African rugby has been up to since his wedding. As they try a bit of archery and go bass fishing, Simba finds out about their move from Joies, where Willem played for the lions. Willem has since made the Shark’s proud, constantly getting ‘man of the match’ and highlights dedicated to him. He played for South Africa in the final three matches of last year and scored in every game. It seems married life and the Durbs climate is suiting the man just fine.

Spaces & Places
Author Gerald Garner sings the praises of Johannesburg in his book Spaces and Places, a Guide to Joburg’s Hidden Gems. He takes Simba on a journey around the inner-city through his eyes – showing us a few remarkable little places in the city of gold we may never have stumbled upon. In his words, “I have grown to love Joburg over time because of its exuberant energy and I continue to be mesmerised by its many hidden gems”. Join us as we visit quirky and contemporary Hotel Lamunu in Braamfontein, have lunch in the tranquil courtyard of Narina Trogon restaurant and admire the public sculptures – both old and new - at the Ernest Oppenheimer Park, a delightful green space right in the center of the hustle and bustle.

Fashion figurehead Marianne Fassler is made over as a live Tretchikoff masterpiece
After two decades in the fashion business, Marianne Fassler is arguably one of South Africa’s most original and enduring designers. Lorna meets this exotic artist in her studio and they talk fashion and how South Africa is a constant source of inspiration to her and at the creative core of everything she does. Marianne has always been an avid fan and collector of iconic and prolific artist Trechikoff - she shows Lorna the room dedicated to him in her house. It is no surprise then when we hear that she is going to be made over as a Trechikoff masterpiece for a major exhibit of his works. Lorna is lucky enough to join De Kat magazine on a behind the scenes shoot with Marianne who is styled to look like a Trechikoff painting. Then it’s time to get glamed up and head to the grand opening of the Trechikoff exhibition at the Iziko South African National Gallery in Cape Town. Marianne of course arrives dressed in an outfit designed and inspired by her favourite Trechikoff painting.

June magazine promo
We go behind the scenes on the June cover shoot of Top Billing magazine with celebrity couple Lee-Ann Liebenberg and Nicky van der Walt at the beautiful Table Bay Hotel, Cape Town waterfront. The theme - 'Breakfast at Tiffany's'. The look - chic tailored styling in a monochromatic (black and white) colour palette. The mood - sophisticated glamour, which we have come to recognise with this iconic film. Vivacious Lee-Ann was styled with a modern twist on the demure Audrey Hepburn - pearls have never looked so sexy. The little black dress, which no woman can now live without, was an immediate wardrobe necessity after Audrey stunned audiences in her simple black shift - and in tribute to this, the Top Billing cover shoot was in no shortage of little black dresses. For the cover shot; Nicky, ever suave, wears a classic black suit - and Lee-Ann radiates like a star-let, in a strapless ivory cocktail dress, accessorised with a magnificent white gold, diamond and pearl necklace. Picture-perfect icons in their own time... This portrait is definitely one for the mantle piece! If the way to a man's heart is through his stomach, then the way to a woman's heart is through her feet! Lee-Ann felt like Carey Bradshaw for a day; with a spread of designer footwear that left all the ladies on set, weak at the knees.
