Durban Motion Pictures (DMP) is one production company maximising on this call for local content having produced and made six movies to date – three of them in a record time of one month in 2012.

Having started Actors Showcase, an actors’ training platform in Durban in 2011, DMP draws its cast members from a pool of talent of over 200 members and make use of established award winning celebrity actors in leading and supporting roles to boost the productions value.

This year DMP stepped up a notch in terms of the quality of productions and storytelling by partnering with another Durban based production company, Media Sea for the visual look of the films.

The three films done so far in 2013 are; uMalokazana, uGazi noMantolwana and Devil in the Family.

uMalokazana, starring Lwandle Ngwenya, a finalist in the 2011 Miss SA pageant, follows a city girl with a huge passion for singing and music who is forced make a choice between her dreams and the man she loves and his tradition.

uGazi noMantolwana, a sequel in the comedy series of Gazi (played by Philani Sithebe), a con artist character whose has various shady money making schemes, partners with Eastern Cape comedian, Mantolwana (Scelo Mamle) to bring the audience laughter and fun. The film also features well known Gagasi FM DJ, Kini Shandu in his debut screen role.

Devil in the Family is about a fanatical Christian mother who forces her only daughter to marry for money but in the process risks losing her for good. Lungelo Dhladhla, a SAFTA winner and Mandisa Nduna, a finalist in Class Act 2, feature in this movie.

The three films will flight on Mzansi Magic, channel 161 on DStv starting from Monday, 18 March and will be on rotation. Please check local listings for repeat screening.
