Kulcha Kwest is hosted by Siyabonga Mdlalose. Viewers watching the docu-reality show receive lifelong lessons as they connect with different cultures and traditions.

Mdlalose, aged 31, is a television and radio presenter, master of ceremonies and voice over artist. Born in Pietermaritzburg, he grew up in Johannesburg. He speaks English, Zulu, Xhosa and Sesotho. He was a presenter on Take5, Making Moves and Kulcha Kwest’s first season. He was also the voice over artist for the first and second season of Daddy 24/7.

Highlights of a few episodes include: Sicelo, an Honours graduate who is an orphan. He’s having a traditional graduation and wants his deceased parents to be part of this important celebration. Isaac believes that his Tshangisa clan have lived with a curse for far too long; he’s on a journey to seek forgiveness and reparation to reunite his clan with their ancestors.

Luyanda, a popular Xhosa TV presenter has many myths about Xhosa clans; his journey is to find out who the Xhosa people are and how to preserve their heritage in modern times. Gugu has been having dreams about her ancestors; she believes this is a calling and she must embark on a journey to her father’s family home to find out about these dreams and herself. Kem, raised by foster parents, is planning to marry and start a family but she must first know more about her real family and perform a ritual of belonging.

The second season of Kulcha Kwest airs from Sunday, 27 July at 17:30 on SABC1.
