On Friday, the event will host comedy and fashion shows, 13 Categories will be announced and there will be performances by various traditional groups. The main music awards ceremony will take place on Saturday evening, and 15 music categories will be announced.

SABC’s spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago says; “The SATMA Awards offers an opportunity to the SABC to continue showcasing the county’s music cultural diversity. Music occupies a central place in the SABC’s programming, be it traditional, jazz, gospel, choral music or any genre; music plays a crucial role in the promotion of the culture of South Africa’s people, and the rest of the continent.”

The SATMA Awards founder, Dr. Dumisani Goba, says; “SATMA Awards will continue to honour and preserve South Africa’s culture and heritage through its support of the arts.”

He further challenged government and associated arts and culture departments to put their financial muscles behind programmes that support the upliftment of traditional music, culture and heritage.

The SATMA Awards promote, preserve, uplift, develop, stage multicultural exchanges, honour and award traditional musicians across racial and ethnic background.

The red carpet will open at 17:30 with VIP guests such as celebrities, traditional musicians, and high-ranking government officials.

The official award ceremony will start at 19:00 with performances by some of the SATMA Awards nominees, icons and legends of traditional music.

Some of the SABC talent that will be at the event include Bheka Mchunu and Ngizwe, both from Ukhozi FM.
