The artworks were for sale to the public for R1500 per piece, and 100% of the proceeds from every artwork sold sponsors 150 illustrated children’s books to be given to South African children, many of whom don’t own their own books.

The Cape Town leg of the creative, collaborative and generous art exhibition was a huge success and a fun night. Event visitors queued around the block ahead of the event, and 120 artworks donated by top South African creatives were sold on the opening night, sponsoring 21 000 children’s storybooks for South African children.

The Johannesburg exhibition took place on Thursday, 26 November at Nando’s Central Kitchen, 10 A Victoria Road, Lorentzville. There were different artworks on exhibition and for sale to raise funds for kids lit organisation, Book Dash, to get books to kids. Cocktails in the indigenous garden next to beautiful Brett Murray installations, Nando’s snacks and live music gave guests a few more reasons not to miss this creative collaboration for anything.

Each exhibition features artworks donated by top South African creatives. For the Johannesburg show, exhibition curator Jacki Lang selected more than 130 well-known and emerging local artists, designers, illustrators, architects and photographers – including Brett Murray, Conrad Botes, Gabby Raaff, Kilmany-Jo Liversage, Lien Botha, Liza Grobler, Matthew Hindley, Mia Widlake, Paul Senyol and artists from the Nando’s Art Initiative. The original framed artworks will be on sale for R1500 each, with a limit of one artwork per person. The identity of each artist will only be revealed once the artwork is sold.

Beukes and Lang’s 2013 exhibition, The Shining Girls Charity Art Show followed the same formula – visitors queued around the block and the exhibition sold out in 20 minutes, raising R100 000 for Rape Crisis in Cape Town.
