Die Burger’s Maygene de Wee was awarded the national prize in the Print Feature category for her insightful articles on George ‘Geweld’ Thomas, leader of the 28-gang in Bishop Lavis who, together with other gang members, was sentenced to life in prison for several murders and other offences.

Kim Harrisberg of Code4SA was the Online winner for Living on the Edge for News24. This multimedia series includes video, data journalism, photography, census visualisations and an interactive tool/calculator that allows employers to enter the daily or monthly salary they pay their domestic workers and estimate what percentage of domestic worker’s basic expenses are being met by this wages/salary.

De Wee and Harrisberg each won R10 000.
