It has a fully-equipped mobile stage; 5-metres deep by 10-metres wide with dressing rooms, a PA system and lights.

“It’s a mobile stage which aims to change lives by bringing theatre to the communities,” says Xoliswa Nduneni-Ngema, CEO of Joburg City Theatres. “The truck will be visiting schools in surrounding areas from early next year. Children’s education and development can benefit from many areas that theatre addresses including life development skills, improved self-confidence, the ability to work with a group, and the awareness of career opportunities. It’s also assisting to fulfil the social cohesion that we are striving to work towards.”

The line-up reflects the diversity that Joburg City Theatres is working towards with an all-inclusive philosophy around the arts. The afternoon programme is family orientated and will include children’s activities such as story-telling with music and indigenous games, visual art and up-cycling (making art objects from recycled materials).
