The Fearless Chef follows his adventures as he goes to different countries in search of hard-to-obtain ingredients. Each of these ingredients are important to the local cultures, but difficult to harvest due to the extreme physical conditions that must be overcome. Jethwa does not shy away from any of the challenges, including diving amongst sharks, fishing in icy waters, withstanding extreme heat, and travelling along treacherous routes.
From Bolivia to Beijing and the jungles of Borneo, each episode showcases how the local cultures use ingredients and how it is harvested. Jethwa will try any unusual food offered to him and incorporates as much as he can in his final dish. He tastes the local cuisines, but incorporates flavours or methods from around the world in his final meal of each episode. Viewers will want to learn about the different foods, cheer Jethwa on in the physical and food challenges, and delight in his gastronomic creations.
Jethwa is a third generation Kenyan born to an English mother and Indian father. He is the owner and chef at one of Nairobi’s’ most popular seafood restaurants: Seven Seafood and Grill. His cooking style certainly reflects his colourful background and is a fusion of Afro-Indian-Mediterranean flavours.
The Fearless Chef airs from Tuesday, 19 January at 20:50 on National Geographic, channel 181 on DStv.
