Since being launched on DStv in November, VIA has already become a firm favourite among Afrikaans viewers. Ventre, one of Media24’s most experienced editors, was part of the launch team.
She is the former editor-in-chief of Media24’s flagship weekly magazines
Huisgenoot,
YOU and
DRUM and former editor of
Insig,
tvplus and
Move!.
Until recently she served as editor of Media24’s Editorial Solutions team which assisted advertisers with marketing concepts across all platforms. She will take over the reins from Cheryl Uys-Allie, VIA’s founding channel head who will leave the channel when her one-year contract comes to an end in March.
Media24 chief executive Esmaré Weideman thanked Uys-Allie for her immense contribution to the creation of VIA. “It was incredibly exciting to see how VIA grew from a concept to a reality in Cheryl’s capable hands. Her hard work and commitment has been crucial to VIA’s successful launch. We are delighted that Izelle, whose many skills include an instinctive understanding of various audiences, has agreed to step up to the plate. A lot of VIA’s early success is thanks to her.”
VIA, South Africa’s first Afrikaans lifestyle channel, has gained a loyal following in a short period of time thanks to its unique offering of programmes about food, relationships and style. DStv Media Sales, MultiChoice’s advertising division, will start commercial activities in March when viewership data has settled. In the meantime Media24’s own commercial teams have started selling sponsorships and integrated Media24 deals.
Venter says her experience as a magazine editor will come in handy in her new role. “The knowledge I have gained of the diverse Afrikaans audiences is the main reason I am able to take on this wonderful challenge. I’m looking forward to building the channel with the help of our experienced VIA team as well as our loyal producers. And, of course, with the support of all our brothers and sisters within Media24.”
