In a bid to #BeMoreMadiba, 5FM is calling on listeners to get involved and contribute where they can.

The Fresh@5 team has asked listeners to assist with items for the Samaritans Children’s Home in Polokwane. The station visited them in April during the Small Town Life Loud weekend and identified some of their immediate needs, which include non-perishable food, clothes (for ages 2 to 17), bedding, cupboards and a jungle gym. Those who are able to assist may email [email protected].

Roger Goode and the afternoon drive team, who has always felt strongly about the welfare of animals, has this year decided to raise funds and awareness for the SPCA.

On Monday, 18 July, The Roger Goode Show will broadcast from a cage at Office Tower Court Sandton City. The team - Roger Goode, Robbie Kruse, Sureshnie Rider and Ms Cosmo - will have to remain in the cage from 07:00 until 19:00, including broadcasting of their show from the cage between 16:00 and 19:00. Goode is appealing for donations towards the SPCA by either dropping off food, blankets or cash at the venue or via the SPCA mobisite.

Listeners can join the team in the cage for R10 per minute, for a maximum of 67 minutes (R670), with all proceeds going towards the SPCA. The team will receive only one meal for the day. They are also not allowed to have their phones with them in the cage and will receive one bathroom break for 5 minutes, every two hours. If they take longer than 5 minutes for their breaks, they have to donate R500 to the cause.

On Sunday, 17 July the station will be crossing over to listeners every 67 minutes asking they plan on being more Madiba this month.

“With our youthful audience in mind, 5FM has curated a list of 67 ways that our 5FM community can contribute 67 minutes of time to Be More Madiba,” says station manager, Justine Cullinan, “There is a great appetite to give back, and the job of 5FM is to show people how and mobilise them to do so."
