The centre will be highlighting its key tenants and initiatives, within the centre as well as online, in an attempt to spread awareness about the importance of supporting and maintaining an eco-conscious environment.

Earth Hour is an initiate that was developed by The WWF to further promote an environmentally conscious way of living. This Saturday people across the globe are encouraged to acknowledge Earth Hour by switching off their lights and go beyond the hour.

Cavendish Square sets the standard beyond the hour through its own green initiatives that have been implemented within the centre to save on energy, conserve resources and reduce waste.

In support of The WWF and Earth Hour, the former WWF head has made a donation of “Africana” books to be sold at a literacy book sale to be hosted by Cavendish Square from Thursday 14 April to Sunday 17 April. The theme of the book sale will be “Africana” and will focus on the history and exploration of the African continent. Funds raised will be used to further promote the Cavendish Square children’s literacy programme, in conjunction with NGO Wola Nani.

“We are extremely fortunate to have received a significant donation of Africana books from the library of the former head of the WWF”, says book sale convenor Mark Leach. “With many books about hunting, Namibia, and the wildlife of Southern Africa – most of them signed presentation copies - this is the kind of collection that would normally only surface at auction. We appeal to all Africana collectors to come out and support this fundraiser”.

Parents are also encouraged to bring their children to Cavendish Square’s celebrity reader programme on Saturday 16 April at 12.30pm. Kids will have the opportunity to have popular children’s titles read to them by radio personality, Charmaine Noy.
