“While we wanted to do something special for Mandela Day, we also wanted to use it as an opportunity to connect with local schools,” says Fourways Mall marketing manager, Marjike Arran. “With the focus this year being on literacy, we thought a book, filled with tributes to him, would be a great way to both tribute Nelson Mandela and acknowledge the importance of literacy in our schools.”

Pre-Primary and Primary schools in the Fourways area were approached in May to submit artwork, stories and poetry inspired by Mandela. The ten schools that chose to participate were: St Peters Junior Prep (Boys and Girls), Little Ashford Preschool, C.A.R.E, Kim Field Academy, Little Ashford Prep Bryanston, Bryanston Parallel Medium, Crawford Lonehill Prep, Junior College, Heron Bridge College and Bryanston United Nursery School.

All proceeds raised from the sale of the book will be donated to the Nelson Mandela Children’s hospital Trust (NMCH); Fourways Mall’s chosen Charity for 2013. “We will be covering all costs for the printing and production of the book up to a cost of R50,000,” explains Arran, "so all monies from the sale of the book will be donated to NMCH.”

The book will be available to order from the Centre Management Offices for a cost of R200 for the duration of July and August.
