Government Technology (GovTech) conferences were launched in 2006 and the annual events have become renowned as premier platforms for ICT collaboration, capacity-building and information-sharing. This year’s event is expected to attract 2000 delegates.

The event was opened by Minister of Telecommunications and Postal Services, Dr Siyabonga Cwele (MP), who addressed the media on Sunday, 25 October, following an Open Data Think Tank hosted by Sita and attended by government and industry leaders at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre, where GovTech is taking place.

“This year GovTech’s umbrella theme is Partnering for Service Delivery,” says Vuma founder and CEO Janine Hills. “GovTech’s sub-themes of Connecting Communities for Development and Growth were drawn from the announcement of the SA Connect broadband policy earlier this year, which looks at the crucial role local government will play in the roll-out of broadband, something that is critical to economic and social development in our country.”

Reflecting this emphasis on delivery and access, and especially blurring the traditional urban-rural divide, GovTech 2015 has highlighted four key thematic tracks: Partnering for service delivery to create a better South Africa; Driving transformation through Government ICT demand; Connecting communities; and Economic growth through empowered communities.

“We are pleased to join GovTech in celebrating a decade of looking for practical and progressive ICT solutions for a developing nation,” Hills says. “GovTech 2015 includes acclaimed local and international speakers and participants from across Africa to exchange information, discuss, debate, and work together for the betterment of Africa.”
