The Academy takes the participants on a journey of discovery as they delve into their personal self, hone their skills and learn how to tell their story to a wider audience. This weekend focused on their personal development – the social entrepreneurs had the opportunity to meet and interact with Shaka Sisulu, Andy Walshe and Arianne de Bonvoisin; all prominent business specialists in their respective professions.

“So far, the academy has given me an eye-opening experience.  More than anything, I have been inspired to move beyond my comfort zone and constantly aim to improve myself. From here on, beyond the sky is definitely the limit,” says Wandisile Nqeketho, education and culture social entrepreneur.

In line with the overarching theme for the Red Bull Amaphiko Academy, Friday’s session featured social entrepreneur and activist Shaka Sisulu. He provided insight into targeting emerging issues and the importance of passion to drive creativity to the running of social projects.

Saturday’s lecture with Dr. Andy Walshe, Red Bull’s director of high performance, delved into the benefits of taking business risks and recognising human potential as a vital resource to success.

Ariane de Bonvoisin, speaker, entrepreneur and author covered Sunday’s lecture and reinforced the notion of positive change, saying that; “Change is getting comfortable with the unknown and from this change something good will come”.

The Academy’s emphasis is placed on theoretical and practical learning, which closely mirrors the reality of the industry that these innovators will be entering.

The Red Bull Amaphiko Academy rounds off with the Social Innovation Festival on Sunday, 8 November as part of Langa’s Washington Street is turned into a car-free zone for a living exhibition of innovative ideas, creative activities and community spirit, for all the people of Cape Town to experience. The Social Innovation Festival is a collaboration between the Langa community, Red Bull Amaphiko and Open Streets Cape Town, with the kind support of the SAB foundation.
