This has a significant negative economic impact on the sustainability of many farmers as well as farmworkers and their families. The knock-on effect also has a direct impact on the short-term availability of food to communities across the country.

“Due to the severity of the situation, we have decided to get involved in several efforts to assist all people suffering from this disaster,” says Omri van Zyl, chief executive officer of Agri SA. “The cost of this disaster can reach the R20-billion mark.”

André Venter, multitalented musician and businessman, has joined Agri SA’s efforts to assist the farming industry. Venter is a former member of the vocal group Romanz, while he also enjoyed a stint at a presenter on Kyknet’s Jam! Brought up in Welkom, Free State, Venter realises the enormous need amongst the farming community and has joined Agri SA to assist the industry.

Venter has recorded a song entitled Ons Vra U Vir Reën (We Ask You For Rain) with a message of hope and a call to all people to keep the faith and pray for rain. The song will be released across social media, alongside a request for a R20 donation per download. All proceeds will be donated to the Drought Disaster Fund managed by Agri SA.

The song can be purchased and downloaded onto your smartphone, tablet or PC via the MITracks.fm app (www.mitracks.fm). MITracks.fm vouchers can be purchased for the MITracks app (IOS & Android) from Pep Stores, Shoprite and Checkers stores nationwide. Alternatively,
you can use the app in conjunction with your credit card of purchase the song via EFT. Social media will not be the only channel used. To support the project, other media will be utilised too, including television, newspaper and radio.

Venter will commence on a national concert tour in February 2016 to support the drought fund. He will perform this song at every possible event and stage, hereby calling fellow South Africans to support our farming community.
