Sustainable Brands, founded in 2006, encourages brands internationally to lead the way “to a sustainably abundant future”.

In the Twittersphere, the brand’s handle @SustainBrands topped Onalytica’s list of 100 brands, placing it at number one above WWF, Thomson Reuters, Triple Pundit, Sustainable Business, GreenBiz, Enablon, EcoInteractive and UN Environment, to name just a few.

The study also features a list of 100 individuals leading the conversation in “Sustainability or Susty” on Twitter

“There may be few other categories where the information shared and community built could be of more significance than around the topic of sustainability,” the study states.

“The ‘stakeholders’ for business include those in supply chains, investors, customers and employees, to name a few. But, given the urgency of climate change, the bottom line is how this influence can be wielded for positive impact for any and every global citizen.”

Sustainable Brands has more than 73 000 Twitter followers. However, as the Onalytica study explains, information is based on “PageRank” methodology in order to “extract influencers on a particular topic”. This takes into account user engagement as opposed to the number of followers a page has.

While not affecting the Twitter study, the brand’s sustainability conversation also extends to their Facebook followers – with more than 15 000 “Likes” for their official page.
