#SABC4 reinstated … Or not?

The SABC sparked controversy this week … BIG shocker there. Among the eight journalists who had been fired from the broadcaster, Foeta Krige, Suna Venter, Krivani Pillay and Jacques Steenkamp appeared in the labour court on Tuesday to appeal against the SABC for unlawfully dismissing them, and ordering for them to be reinstated. The #SABC4 won the case, but the drama was far from over.

When the #SABC4 arrived at the SABC bright and early the next morning, the doors were once again shut on them, as the broadcaster refused to let them in because the SABC would appeal the court’s ruling.

However, after much discussion, the SABC management team has decided to reinstate seven of the eight journalists ... and they all lived happily ever after!

Given the SABC’s rash decision-making ways of late, we’re guessing this story is not over yet, so stay tuned.

Man on fire at Monte Casino

Tragedy struck the popular Johannesburg hang out spot, Monte Casino, when a man drank petrol and set himself on fire near the entrance of the casino. The theories surrounding the reason for the suicide are piled up high, and most of them involve the loss of way too much money. One question that bothers us, though, is how bad must his situation have been to drive him to such an extreme exit?

The man’s name will not be disclosed, but he has been identified and his family have been notified. Moral of the story: be careful with gambling, folks. While it may seem fun when you’re winning, the stakes of losing are much higher.

May he rest in peace and may his family overcome this tragedy.

Crazy weather and colourful language

… And breathe out! Time to catch our breath with some light reading. Well, it’s sort of light.

Stop chasing Pokemon for one second, and you may notice some areas have been completely destroyed. The reason? Tornados and snow! We’re not even kidding.

On Monday, the country saw some pretty strange weather conditions (except for Cape Town, they’re too fancy to have bad weather). While most areas only saw heavy flooding, other parts of the country like KZN and the Eastern Cape saw heaps of snow, and some areas like Tshwane and Tembisa were hit by hectic tornados. Yep. Tornados.

The impact of the tornado in Tembisa was so bad that it caused the roof of the Phumulani mall to completely collapse. Despite the tragedy, we can always trust someone to bring comedy to a situation that is actually no laughing matter. In this case, it was Phumulani mall spokesperson Godfrey Mashakgomo who expressed his true feelings on the disaster, commenting in a News24 article that “the whole mall is f**ked up”. So descriptive.

#TweetlikeDineo, because it makes sense

In case you missed it, last week saw a Twitter vs. Dineo Renaka battle, after Dineo refused to help out a certain @Miss_Mnisi with a matric dance dress (You can read the full story here), and the actress took quite a few punches, one of them from her former PR agency, Ndabezinhle PR, who released a statement that they’re retracting themselves from being her representative.

Ouch.

It was a sad week for Dineo, but for the rest of Twitter the saga produced some hilarious #TweetlikeDineo material. We hope she can restore her reputation one day, but ,for now, you can enjoy some of our favourite #TweetlikeDineo tweets:

@Lex_Fresh: Engaged person: I need a wedding dress. Dineo: But are you married though? The aim is to be married and not look married. #TweetLikeDineo

@moagi_tladi: Tweep: I need new PJs. Dineo: How do you need new PJs when you don't even know if you're gonna fall asleep or not? #TweetLikeDineo

@ThabZMnganga: Why are you applying for varsity? You haven't even passed matric yet. #TweetlikeDineo

Until next time, stay fresh and don’t forget to vote next week!
