Daddy I've seen this piece six times before... hits the Market Theatre stage
The Market Theatre will presents City Theatre and Dance Group’s Daddy, I’ve seen this piece six times before and I still don’t know why they’re hurting each other from 11 April to 6 May at the Barney Simon Theatre.
Robyn Orlin’s Daddy explores politics in the arts in terms of performance empowerment and ownership of space. Six performers fight over the same space while they wait for their director to arrive for a performance. The performers wait in panic five minutes before the show, but the director does not arrive. Their waiting becomes the background against which the collage of dances is set.
2003’s winner of an Olivier Award, Orlin continuously pushes the boundaries of performance and dance. Her new work is a startling reflection on one of the most serious threats of Africa’s future, HIV/Aids. Despite its weighty focus, the performance is laced with humour and charm as it dazzles with Orlin’s trademark ingenuity of narrative, dance and song.
Season: 11 April to 6 May
Venue: Barney Simon Theatre
Performance times: Tuesdays to Saturdays, 20:15 and Sundays, 15:15
