Every year in celebration of Mandela Day, 18 July, South Africans dedicate 67 minutes to making South Africa a better place. In 2014, Philips Healthcare staff devoted their time to painting and beautifying the Radiology Department of Helen Joseph Hospital in Auckland Park, Johannesburg.
Philips Healthcare donated the paint as well as the flowers for the outside section of the hospital.
Philips Healthcare managing director, Jose Fernandes, says, “Mandela Day is not only about doing good, it is about service. It is an opportunity to build upon Madiba’s lifelong belief that we must live to serve every day, in whatever we do.”
“Nelson Mandela fought for social justice for 67 years of his life. It is not too much to ask that we devote 67 minutes of each day in each year to honour his lifelong legacy. Philips Healthcare recognises this and as part of our contribution we decided to give our time to the Helen Joseph Hospital by painting and providing pot plants for their gardens,” concludes Fernandes.
