In each episode, their closest family members will send them off on a life-changing challenge and viewers get to experience the adventures with the brother and sister firsthand. Their sister, Cara, challenges them to exchange their glamorous lives in Pretoria East for two days in the underprivileged neighbourhood of Elandspoort near Danville. They must feed themselves and others on a budget of R100.

Bobby’s father, Bob Sr, challenges him to help a rhino protection team, while their mother, Ronel, sends Karlien off on a minibus taxi to spend a weekend with her domestic worker.

“All the emotions I’ve ever experienced are compressed in one show. I think this series is going to touch people’s hearts. It certainly changed my life,” Bobby says.

“Viewers will really get to know us,” Karlien adds. “The show is one of the best things I’ve ever done in my life. It’s really special.”

Izelle Venter, VIA’s channel head, says this new reality show is a dream come true for VIA. “Bobby and Karlien are as familiar to our viewers as braaiing and rugby, but now we get to see a new side of them. And viewers will also get to experience the worlds they wonder about. This is not the Kardashians, it’s the Van Jaarsvelds with heart and soul.”

Bobby en Karlien: In jou skoene is a 13-part series of episodes filmed across the country. The show starts on Wednesday, 11 January 2017 at 20:30 on VIA, channel 147 on DStv. The show kicks off with an hour-and-a-half premiere while subsequent episodes will all be an hour and will air every Wednesday at 20:30.

“We believe Media24 will make a mark in the local TV industry with this unique format. It’s wonderful to see how the stories you see daily on our digital platforms and in our print products can also find a place on our TV channel VIA,” says Esmaré Weideman, chief executive officer of Media24. The show was created by Carien Loubser of Brainwave Productions.
