Meet the Young Americans is coming to BBC Knowledge
Media 30
Stacey Dooley reveals the shocking new youth trends that are spreading across America, immersing herself into some of the most unusual American communities and exploring what it really means to be a young American in Meet the Young Americans. It will be broadcast on Wednesday, 23 January at 21:00 on BBC Knowledge, channel 184 on DStv.
Dooley meets a young woman who is behind bars in the only prison boot camp for girls in the States. But can a military-style regime, where the girls have orders barked at them and their heads shaved really turn them away from a life of crime?
She also meets gay American men who are struggling to come to terms with their sexuality. Diagnosed by therapists as having SSA (Same Sex Attraction) issues, the men attend a controversial gay conversion camp in the hopes of changing their sexual orientation.
Finally, Dooley meets those who are desperate to become American. She travels to Mexico to meet some of the thousands of people who make dangerous attempts to cross over the border to work as illegal immigrants in the States. Facing terrible hardship, and with the odds stacked against them, she finds out why some people are willing to risk everything to get to America.
Meet the Young Americans will be broadcast from Wednesday, 23 January at 21:00 on BBC Knowledge, channel 184 on DStv.
