Facebook’s update, announced 19 October on the Facebook business blog, is aimed at increasing interactions between businesses and customers, especially those happening on mobile.

Why? It believes people will continue to go the mobile route. “Now that there are more mobile connections around the world than there are humans on the planet, people are spending more time on mobile, and they expect to be able to do more from their phones and tablets,” the company stated in September 2015, when it first started to expand its call-to-action button options.

“These trends have far-reaching conclusions for businesses, the biggest of which is that it’s never been more important to make your business easily accessible on mobile,” the company indicated at the time. The latest update to buttons will give businesses more options relevant to their offering and offer customers greater functionality on Pages.

The updates, once rolled out, should prove popular among users as more than one billion people visit Pages every month, according to Facebook’s statistics.

With the new buttons, people will be able to schedule, order, and buy on Pages. The Start Order, Book Now, Buy Tickets, and Get Showtimes options can be integrated with service provider tools such as delivery.com, HomeAdvisor, Ticketmaster, and Fandango. These integrations are available to US businesses, with more third-party services to be added in the coming months.

Get Quote and Request Time buttons function independent of third-party services. These buttons create a Facebook Messenger thread between the customer and the business. Facebook said in a news announcement that it’s starting to roll out these initial experiences in the US.

To get users to recommend businesses to one another, Facebook will let a Page’s logo and a short description show in comments. If a friend writes a post requesting a recommendation for a spa, for instance, other users will be able to mention a page in the comments section of the post – which will automatically let the company logo and description be displayed in the comment.
