'We Beat TB' campaign is set to air on SABC radio stations in April

Published: 30 March 2012

Eleven SABC radio stations are dedicating their health educational slots to the 'We Beat TB' campaign during April. The stations will present information about TB in a manner that is fresh and engaging and encourages constructive behaviour change in target audiences. The stations agree that they play an important role in the fight against TB and HIV.

“In the past there have been numerous campaigns addressing tuberculosis and many people think they know all the basic facts about the disease. But many times the causes, symptoms, treatment and TB’s relationship to HIV/Aids are misunderstood. This is often to the detriment of people who have the disease as well as their family, friends, neighbours and communities,” explains Sara Chitambo, USAID TB project ACSM advisor.

Jo Neethling, SABC Education’s commissioning editor for public information and social development says, “Through radio we can share basic information about TB and HIV with listeners. 'We Beat TB' is a national tuberculosis behaviour change campaign developed by the Department of Health and the USAID TB Project South Africa in association with the University Research Corporation LLC. The media campaign is linked to the KICK TB/HIV drive featuring activation teams that visit schools and target learners, educators and community members. These activation teams educate people about TB and HIV.”
