Each band plays seven songs and one band is guaranteed of going through to the semi finals taking place in October. TOMS Sandton is sponsoring this year’s main prize, an Alto Pro PA system.
Apart from having the opportunity of winning an Alto Pro PA system courtesy of TOMS Sandton, the winning band this year gets to record with award-winning producer Darryl Torr at Openroom Studios in Greenside plus have a one-on-one session with music guru, Dave Chislett, author of
One Two One Two.
Bands also have the opportunity of earning monies from the gig as well as qualifying for a 50% discount on recording packages at Openroom Studios along with a 50% discount when attending one of the SYMSTAN workshops. The same applies for all acoustic guitarists taking part in the acoustic leg.
The event is open to all bands irrespective of musical style because bands are judged on their overall performance on the night by a panel of judges. There is no crowd voting. Bands are judged purely on their performance on the night and not on their style of music, with each band playing seven songs.
TOMS Sandton is also supplying the backline comprising Marshall (Valve) electric guitar amps, Eden bass amp, Fishman acoustic guitar amp and a TAMA drum kit.
