Once again, radio listenership has remained stable on the previous RAMS release, RAMS Feb 2014. This release on radio listenership from the South African Audience Research Foundation (SAARF), RAMS May 2014, shows steady listening levels, with Monday to Friday, Saturday and Sunday quarter-hour levels that are almost identical to those of the previous release.

<i>Isibaya</i> dominates at inaugural <i>Royalty Soapie Awards</i>
Television soap opera newbie, Isibaya, has swept the boards at the inaugural Royalty Soapie Awards (RSAs) at a ceremony at the Durban International Convention Centre on Saturday, 8 March. Isibaya scooped 10 of the 18 categories, leaving the rest of the spoils to be shared amongst industry heavyweights and top audience rated shows.
Entries in the 2014 MTN Radio Awards are presently being evaluated and scored by a panel of over 50 adjudicators across the country. “As we have a limited time-frame for the adjudicators to do their work, we expanded the panel with the objective of sharing the load as broadly as possible,” says Lance Rothschild, CEO of the MTN Radio Awards.
Tamasha Gambushe wins SABC1&#39;s Black Carpet Presenter Search
After thrilling 16-day auditions process which created much excitement and inspiration to the youth of KwaZulu-Natal, SABC1 and Selimathunzi alongside Metro FM, embarked on the Black Carpet Presenter Search, producing a winner.
Sunday, 22 September sees a celebration at King Shaka International Airport. Zulu 200 in association with Airports Company South Africa on behalf of His Majesty, King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu, will host Umgidi Welembe 2013. This cultural pageant looks forward to the approach of the Bicentenary of the Zulu Nation.
SABC3&#39;s <i>Expresso</i> to be simulcast on radio during Heritage Month
South Africa is a nation richly endowed with diverse cultures and outstanding natural heritage. To celebrate the diversity, one has to share and expose one another, so this Heritage Month, SABC3’s flagship breakfast show, Expresso, will simulcast with three African language radio stations, Ukhozi FM, Lesedi FM and Ligwalagwala FM.

Nal’ibali launches children’s radio programme on 11 SABC radio stations
In partnership with SABC Education, Nal’ibali has recently launched a children’s radio programme on 11 SABC public radio stations. Airing children’s stories in all official languages three times a week, the partners are working together to create the conditions that inspire and sustain reading-for-enjoyment practices using oral storytelling – a vital tool in literacy development.

New lifestyle TV show for young South African women launches on SABC1
The Link, a new socially relevant and empowering lifestyle TV show for young South African women has launched. The show is broadcast on SABC1 every Thursday evening at 18:30 and promises to bring viewers exclusive and aspirational content.

The 2012 MTN Radio Awards were presented at a gala banquet at the Sandton Convention Centre on Saturday, 14 April. This is the MTN Radio Awards’ third year of existence and the competition attracted 866 entries, more than double the number of entries received in 2011.
Eleven SABC radio stations are dedicating their health educational slots to the 'We Beat TB' campaign during April. The stations will present information about TB in a manner that is fresh and engaging and encourages constructive behaviour change in target audiences. The stations agree that they play an important role in the fight against TB and HIV.

SABC1’s <i>Live Talent Search</i> attracts significant interest from Mzansi youth
Phase one of SABC1’s Live Talent Search, which kicked off on Friday, 3 February, saw thousands of eager hopefuls taking time to register online to beat the application cut-off date on Monday, 13 February at 9:00. The original closing date of Friday, 10 February was extended to allow applicants an added chance at registering.

Decline in radio listenership due to inclusion of latest samples
By Desi Tzoneva On Thursday, 29 April, SAARF released the most recent RAMS figures, which for the first time, included the new urban/ rural database. The small urban/ rural sample will now be refreshed twice a year, in April and October.
