Newsclip Media Monitoring enables Miss Earth SA to stay up to date with all their media activity; Miss Earth SA can also know how, where and how much awareness they have generated in their green efforts. Miss Earth SA enjoys this service free as one of Newsclip’s pro-bono clients. Newsclip and Miss Earth SA share an ideal of conservation and preservation of planet Earth.

In a world where climate change is a pressing issue, Newsclip Media Monitoring has taken steps toward building a low-carbon, greener economy to revolutionise the face of its business by turning the Johannesburg-based head office into an energy-efficient building. As part of their environmental support, they produce 60% of Newsclip’s energy usage by using sun panels. Newsclip uses a grid-tie technology that forms part of a photovoltaic (PV) solar system that yields 90 000 kWh of electricity, which results in an offset of approximately 92 tons of carbon dioxide per year.

Miss Earth SA 2014, Ilze Saunders’ objective during her year of reign is to reduce her carbon impact. She travels in a hybrid vehicle sponsored by Imperial Toyota and will also be putting together a tree planting prior to her departure to South East Asia to counteract her travel footprint abroad.

Saunders is leaving for the Philippines on Thursday, 6 November, where the environmentalist will spend three weeks travelling throughout the Philippines visiting schools and communities, promoting environmental campaigns and programmes as well as meeting with dignitaries and environmental bodies across the region for International Miss Earth. The theme is based on Eco-tourism, and the Miss Earth SA is endorsed by both the Department of Environmental Affairs and the Department of Tourism.

Newsclip is proud to be able to contribute to Miss Earth’s green movement. Miss Earth SA executive Director, Catherine Constantinides says, “We have no doubt that Ilze will do us proud, she has a wonderful excitement and personality, and she is ready to embrace the experience. Her hard work, hands on involvement and tenacity will stand her in good stead. We are proud of her efforts as a green ambassador, not only for Miss Earth SA, but also for our beautiful country.”
