PRISA - The Institute for Public Relations & Communication Management was founded in 1957 by a handful of public relations practitioners. Membership grew over the years, and today stands at 3 510, including students.
The institute represents senior practitioners and consultants as well as student members. It is dedicated to delivering dynamic, value-added services to members and to ensure continued growth and professionalisation of the industry.
PRISA"s mission is:
* To establish PRISA as the authority for the public relations profession.
* To foster the professionalisation of public relations & communication management in Southern Africa.
* To set and maintain professional ethics and standards among members of the Institute.
* To provide dynamic value-added services to members of the Institute and thereby to its stakeholders.
* To establish public relations as a strategic management function.
* To continually transform the Institute to stay ahead of the dynamic changes in the social, political and economic environment.
PRISA"s objectives are:*To promote general understanding of public relations and communication management and of the value of its practice, and to establish and maintain professional status and dignity for public relations practice amongst registered members of PRISA, employers and the general public.
*To encourage the observance of the highest standards of professional conduct by registered members of PRISA, through adherence to the PRISA Code of Ethics and Professional Standards for the Practice of Public Relations.
*To protect the interests of all concerned in the event of any complaint of malpractice or non-adherence to the PRISA Code of Ethics and Professional Standards for the Practice of Public Relations being brought against a registered member, through the application of a set of disciplinary procedures.
