Passengers in selected taxis from Bara Taxi Rank in Soweto, to various parts of Gauteng, were given a free taxi ride. As the passengers prepared to make payment, the driver interrupted the usual flow of things by notifying them that the ride is free.

"The reality is that nothing is ever too good to be true with us. We are obsessed with providing unique, unbeatable value to ordinary South Africans. It’s the reason we are here today," says Andrew Wood, managing director of The Unlimited. "The approach is underpinned by The Unlimited’s massive transformative purpose of shifting lives and, in this case, 'footing the bill for things that matter in the customer’s life'."

The Unlimited aims to address the reality where financial products are provided at a cost that only a few South Africans can afford. The Unlimited offers products that cost a minimum of R150 a month to cover two people for a R100 000 accident cash each when admitted to the hospital. It also offers  R30 000 death cover and R150 airtime. Such innovations aim to drive competitors to develop products that can only benefit the consumer.

The Unlimited has a client base of over 650 000 customers and 23 years of experience. It has adopted an operational model that cuts out the middleman. "It is the responsibility of companies like The Unlimited to educate consumers on available options that offer unbeatable value," adds Wood.

The company's new suite of Connect products introduces a certain way of responding to consumers’ needs, aiming to ensure that customers benefit from the first day they sign up for their products, which range from health, death, legal, lifestyle, and motor.

"We design and offer quality and affordable products by bundling benefits that consumers need the most. Bundling is the ability to package, for example, an insurance product with a lifestyle product, as well as a cellular product," says Wood.

Wood says it is critical for consumers, especially low to middle-income groups, to be open to receiving more information, 'so that they are informed of available products suited to their needs, can compare prices, and always seek maximum value in financial products they invest in'.
