Since joining the King James Group as strategic planning partner five years ago, just four months after King James II opened its doors, Kotane has been instrumental in establishing the group’s presence in Johannesburg as part of the senior leadership team.
"Lesego came in with an energy that was immediately felt across the group. His depth of insight and absolute passion for the creative product has made him an invaluable member of the senior team," says James Barty, chief executive officer at the King James Group.
"I have had my eye on him for some time now as a key future leader in the business. We’re pleased to announce that the future is now," adds Barty.
Kotane says that having come in at a partner level, his focus has always been broader than his strategy role. "I have always been fully invested in the agency, its people and the clients who entrust us with their brands. I am truly excited by the enormous opportunity [and responsibility] that this new position creates," he says.
"The timing also feels right. For me, year five is the tipping point in the lifecycle of a business, so I’m excited to lead the charge into an incredible new chapter; an opportunity that has reignited my passion for the industry and inspired a razor-sharp focus on the future success of the agency. With the amazingly talented team across the group, and the great energy in the building, we’re gearing up for a winning season," he adds.
Barty says, "With Lesego at the reigns, and best of breed business heads across all group companies, the next phase of our growth in Johannesburg will certainly be one to watch."
Kotane will continue to head up the strategic planning function while this team is being ramped up. He will be supported by Charles Matterson who will now focus on client service and operations.
