The day comprised of panel debates and workshops all themed around 'inspiring excellence through sports and the creative industry' to highlight the impact sports and creativity has on the national brand image.

"At Brand South Africa, it’s important for us to use an inclusive approach to new and different ways that will strengthen the country’s image," says Brand South Africa’s acting chief executive officer, Thembi Kunene-Msimang.

"We are a sports-mad nation, and our creativity holds its own against the best in the world, so it made sense to have this as the focus this year," she adds.

The outcomes for the day included new ways to contribute to the country’s reputation in the areas of arts and how to build South Africa’s narrative through sports.

"Our creative industry and sports are often seen as South Africa’s competitive advantages and, as such, we have to nurture this strength," says Sithembile Ntombela, general manager: marketing.

The day was hosted by TV sports anchor Thomas Mlambo and actress and fashion designer Sthandiwe Kgoroge. Contributors included industry personalities Kass Naidoo, KC Mathoma, Rosie Motene and Criselda Kananda.

"Our panelists and moderators were a diverse pool of nation brand assets. We thank them all for their insights, stories and contributions towards building and strengthening our country’s image and reputation globally," adds Kunene-Msimang.

Kunene-Msimang says that the day’s conversations were fascinating and insightful, and highlighted Brand South Africa’s successes to date, while also giving pause for thought on where the organisation could improve its efforts.

"Luckily, South Africans aren’t afraid of hard work, so we look forward to continuing this exciting journey together," concludes Kunene-Msimang.
