For the past 15 years, Advertising Week events have strived to create platforms and spaces for innovative breakthroughs, new creative partnerships and next-generation thought leaders across the global industry.

Johannesburg now shares the stage with cities including New York, London, Sydney, Tokyo and Mexico City as the host of the four-day gathering.

This will put Africa's thriving creative and innovation industry on a global platform for the first time. Advertising Week Africa's intent is to introduce a new, collaborative platform that recognises and celebrates Africa's contribution to the global industry.

"Many of the positive cultural shifts that we have seen in arts, music, entertainment and film originate from Africa," says Advertising Week CEO, Matt Scheckner. "It’s the perfect time to provide the international platform to share authentic African stories — and showcase thought-provoking marketing and technological innovations — [that are] sweeping the continent," he adds.

"It's [also] an exciting opportunity to bring internationally recognised professionals together with emerging talent. [The purpose is] to have engagements about how this vibrant continent is shaping global trends," says Scheckner.

The first '#AWAfrica' will be held at 1 Fox Johannesburg in October. The four-day programme, which is expected to attract 4 000 attendees, includes more than 100 curated events and involves over 200 speakers.

Each day will feature the Global Keynote Series — a selection of thought leaders from around the world, who will share their perspectives, ranging from brands to cultural icons and, agencies to tech companies.

In addition, the '#AWLearn' workshops offer teaching and learning experiences, where delegates can interact with presenters to not only gain new knowledge but walk away with actionable plans to position them at the industry's leading edge.

'#AWAfrica' packages include:
  • Platinum Pass — R10 350 for launch priced tickets
  • Delegate Pass — R4200 for launch priced tickets
  • NewGen Pass — R1300 for launch priced tickets
  • Student Pass — R550 for launch priced tickets
