We've compiled a list of some of the most relevant digital marketing acronyms to help you decrypt all those mystifying work conversations.

AIDA (Attention, Interest, Desire, Action): AIDA is a model that marketers can follow to target consumers throughout the buyer's journey.

Bounce rate (BR): A bounce rate refers to when your email didn't go through to its recipient. It also refers to how many users clicked onto your page and immediately clicked off without moving to another page.

Call to Action (CTA): A CTA is generally a word or phrase in your copy that encourages your customers to perform an action. This can motivate them to do anything from clicking on a link, leaving a review or even purchasing from your business.

Clickthrough Rate (CTR): This indicates how many individuals visited your website through a link via an ad or email. It also refers to how many users interacted with a link via your website.

Content Management System (CMS): These are those platforms that we all created our first website or blog on (you know, like Wix and Wordpress). These platforms essentially allow you to build websites where you can create and publish content using templates.

Conversion Rate (CR): This is the percentage of website visitors that take the desired action on your website.

Conversion Rate Optimisation (CRO): There are a few things that you can do to boost your CR, which falls under the category of CRO. This includes marketing, improving your website design, creating website leads and even incorporating CTAs (see above).

Customer Relationship Management (CRM): CRM is software businesses use to track data about their existing and prospective customers. This includes data like customer service interactions, purchase history and demographics.

Email Direct Marketing (EDM): This is when any marketing / promotional material is sent directly to customers using email.

Landing Page (LP): This is the first page that a user visits when they enter a website.

Page Rank (PR): This refers to the placement that a website has on a search engine's results page. Your PR is usually determined using an algorithm, which determines the quality and relevance of your site.

Pay Per Click (PPC): PPC is an advertising model where a business pays an ad publisher (like Facebook or Google Ads) per click that they receive on an advert. This differs from Cost Per Click (CPC), which refers to the estimated financial value of all the clicks for the campaign.

Google Analytics (GA): This is a handy tool offered by Google that allows you to track the activity on your website.

Product Detail Page (PDP): A PDP is a web page that is dedicated to describing and selling a specific product that a brand offers.

Return on ad spend (ROAS): This refers to the amount of revenue that was culminated for every Rand that was invested into an ad.

Search Engine Marketing (SEM): This is an umbrella term used to describe any marketing strategies used to boost a business's page rank on the results page of a search engine — like Google, Yahoo or Bing.

Software as a Service (SaaS): This acronym refers to businesses using cloud software (like Dropbox, Cisco WebEx and Salesforce) to distribute applications using the Internet. These applications may be provided directly by the cloud provider, or it may be contracted between a cloud provider and an independent software vendor.

User Experience (UX): This refers to how individuals experience a business's services, systems and products.
