'Make the world a better place' is the main message that the festival wants to convey to creators all over the world, according to the festival. Making the world better, safer, more tolerant and more responsible has become an urgent task for humanity.

The festival says that creative communications play an important role in such changes.

The focus of the KIAF contest programme on socially significant communications makes it possible to draw the attention of creators from all over the world to the topic of social, ethical, environmental and other problems that are currently troubling society — and inspire society to make the world a better place.

KIAF 2023 will aim to celebrate the most creative works of socially effective communications, and these initiatives are aimed to:
  • educate, change perception and inspire action toward helping the environment
  • fight against discrimination (racial, ethnic, religious) by promoting empowerment, equality, rights and tolerance
  • achieve gender equality and empowerment for all
  • reduce poverty and hunger everywhere
  • support, protect and conserve animals and wildlife, and
  • promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development.

In the 2023 season, it presented a special contest, PEACE, which was created for works and campaigns against war, aggression, genocide and crimes against humanity — including the current war in Ukraine. Among the priorities in this contest, it aims to promote:
  • peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development
  • reduce violence, combat crime and terrorism, and
  • combat organized crime and illicit financial and arms flow.

The contest programme includes 13 contests:
  1. PEACE
  2. Environment & Sustainability — initiatives intended to educate, change perception and inspire action toward helping the environment.
  3. Human Rights, Justice & Strong Institutions — work intended to fight against discrimination (racial, ethnic, religious) by promoting empowerment, equality, rights and tolerance.
  4. Education: Quality, Civic & Social Education — efforts that contribute to ensuring inclusive and quality education for all and promote lifelong learning opportunities.
  5. Gender Equality & LGBTQ Rights — work towards achieving gender equality and empowerment for all.
  6. Poverty & Hunger — efforts that address poverty and hunger everywhere.
  7. Health & Well-Being — work that intends to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all.
  8. Children: Health / Safety / Happiness — initiatives relating to what children need for a safe and happy life.
  9. Prosperity: Economic Growth, Innovations, Industry — work that promotes inclusive and economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all, nurtures investments and innovations.
  10. Animal Care & Protection — work that intends to support, protect and conserve animals and wildlife.
  11. Arts and Culture — efforts that address the different issues and goals to preserve artistic and cultural heritage.
  12. Partnership for the Goals — collaboration working and multi-stakeholder partnerships of governments, civil society, the private sector and others towards the betterment of society and the implementation of sustainable development.
  13. Local Solutions — initiatives that address positive change goals with a primary focus on cultural insights and regional context.

In each of the 13 contests, 11 categories reflect the tools used to achieve the set communication tasks, some of these include:
  • Film
  • Radio / audio advertising
  • Print and publishing
  • Out-of-Home
  • Social media and influence, and
  • PR campaigns.

The festival is open to all parties, organisations and individual creators — involved in advertising, production, media, PR, design and creative industries — worldwide, including advertisers and media companies. The organisation says that all groups are welcome to enter except terrorist and aggressor countries, or countries that support terrorism and aggression.

Individuals can enter their submissions on the website. Participation in the PEACE contest is free of charge for all international participants until the final deadline.
