In making the appointment, MultiChoice says it noted VMLY&R's extensive digital experience, as well as its ability to deliver strategy-led creative solutions underpinned by solid data and analytics.
"We leaned into our VML heritage and digital DNA," says chief growth officer Insaaf Khan. "It is a privilege and energising opportunity to deliver creative effectiveness powered by data and tech solutions."
Jarred Cinman, co-CEO of VMLY&R South Africa, says that the partnership feels like a perfect fit.
"We love innovating in the digital space. So, working with a client like MultiChoice that embraces technology and is eager to experiment in this space feels like an excellent match for us. I'm looking forward to seeing the work that comes out of this partnership," Cinman adds.
According to the duo, another key factor was VMLY&R's African footprint, which has been bolstered by a recent strategic partnership with Kenyan agency SCANAD.
Also under the WPP umbrella, SCANAD works with some of the biggest brands on the continent and shares VMLY&R's commitment to making work that lives in people’s lives.
"Working with an incredible team of marketers and, together with our regional partner SCANAD, we will create local and impactful solutions that will grow the business to new heights across the continent," Khan says.
"Digital creative is a critical piece of our MultiMoment maturity as a marketing organisation. We're excited to partner with VMLY&R, who we believe is perfectly geared up to help us succeed as we focus on our digital creative evolution," concludes Daniel Courtenay, executive head of group digital marketing and innovation at MultiChoice Group.
