According to the
New Generation Social & Digital Media Awards, it has established a reputation as the largest independent digital media awards in South Africa.
The awards say that it is 'identifying true winners at the forefront of South Africa's future communications, media and digital technologies'.
New for 2023 — the awards has introduced a new category —
The Best Use of AI in Marketing Campaign Award by a corporate and by an agency.
The awards also welcome three new judges to 2023's panel:
- Firdous Osman — managing director at Saatchi & Saatchi, Publicis Groupe | SA's Women Leader 2021
- Astrid Staegemann — media director at iProspect South Africa, and
- Raymond Langa — managing partner at MD LEAGAS DELANEY.

Through an array of 48 categories,
New Gen says that it recognises both the leading corporates and agencies that produce outstanding and innovative campaigns to promote themselves and their brands in ground-breaking ways.
The categories included are as follows:
- corporate awards
- agency awards
- online media & tools awards
- student awards
- individual awards, and
- the overall special awards categories.
New Gen celebrates ingenuity with a specific focus on results and insight-based success. The awards add that it prides itself on having the fairest and toughest judging process, which ensures each entry is marked by a minimum of four judges, measuring them against criteria such as:
- strategy
- innovation
- creativity
- content
- results
- reach, and
- engagement.
A separate panel consisting of 10 judges marks the
special awards categories.
The awards conclude that the judges value ingenuity and creative brilliance as key factors in the judging process and ensure that it is primarily about the results achieved when marking the submissions.
