Marking a profound moment in Quirk's development into a true international eMarketing agency, Mark Sherrington has been appointed as Quirk's first Non-Executive Chairman. Mark will assist in furthering the company's international strategy and add valuable momentum to its pursuit of global brands.
Sherrington, brand marketing guru, started his career at Lever Brothers in 1977 during the ‘golden age' of brand marketing, becoming Marketing Director of Lever Spain and then Global Marketing Manager for Detergents.
After leaving Unilever, he founded the marketing agency, The Added Value Group, in 1988. There he held the position of CEO for fourteen years, and developed Added Value into a FTSE 350 company. He then sold the agency and joined SABMiller in London, where he served as Group Marketing Director for four years.
As a leader in the Online Marketing industry, Quirk attracts high profile clients, including South African Tourism; Google; Warner Brothers; Sun International; and FNB. The Online Marketing industry as a whole is growing and developing at a fast pace, with more companies realising the medium's potential. Quirk has contributed toward the industry through releasing its own textbook, the second edition of which was released this year. eMarketing: the Essential Guide to Online Marketing is registered under the Creative Commons License and is available as a free download on Quirk's website.
Along with the acquisition of several blue chip clients, Quirk has recently welcomed some big industry players into its ranks. In March, Kathryn Sharfman joined the team as Group Client Service Director. This has given the Client Service team a clearer strategic vision and excellent leadership. Emma Carpenter also joined Quirk recently to hold the position of Creative Director, leaving her position as Senior Art Director at Ogilvy International. Scott Gray recently left his role as Interactive Marketing Manager for BMW South Africa and taken his place as Client Strategy Director at Quirk.
Quirk's dramatic growth over the past 10 years, in both its client base and number of employees warranted a momentous move for its Cape Town headquarters in August. The office is now at The Boulevard, a much larger and more modern building. The move was necessary in order to accommodate the rapid growth which Quirk is currently experiencing.
