Consumer complaints were lodged against SAB’s billboard advertisements promoting its Carling Black Label 750ml bottle. Complaints submitted that the advertisements promote excessive drinking, implies that moderate drinkers are weak; inadequate; or like children, and is targeting the macho male market.

“Although the undertaking appears to address the complainants’ concerns,” comments Corné Koch, Communications Manager, “the respondent is requested to remove all advertising making use of the offending claims, irrespective of the medium they appear in.”
